Frequently Asked Questions

Commissioned Sketches:

How do I commission a pencil sketch?

It's very easy. Simply e-mail a photograph of whatever animal you would like sketched and in two to three weeks you will receive back in the post a completed graphite pencil portrait.

What kind of photographs should I send?

Try to find the clearest and best quality photo you can. Please don't send anything passport sized as they are far too small to work from. If you are e-mailing me a JPEG digital image, try to use as high a resolution as possible.

How long will the portrait take?

It will depend on my present workload.  Please allow at least 3 to 4 weeks for a portrait to be completed. On receipt of your picture I will e-mail you an approximate date for completion.  If you need the portrait done for a specific date (birthday, anniversary etc), let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you.  Christmas is always a busy time of the year for me so if you want the portrait for a Xmas present, please try to have the photo sent to me by early November at the latest.

What materials do you use?

All portraits are drawn on Windsor & Newton Bristol Board (a special heavyweight cartridge paper) with a graphite pencil.

Do I get to see the portrait before I buy it?

Yes, once the portrait is completed I will either e-mail or post to you a digital image of the finished work. If it meets with your approval and you decide to buy, then please follow the enclosed payment instructions.

 How will they arrive?

Portraits are sent in hardback envelopes using Royal Mail special delivery service (UK only).  It will be delivered the day after posting and will need to be signed for. Overseas deliveries are sent by Airsure and will take 3-5 days to be delivered. For more information on delivery times & methods visit the Royal Mail website.

How do I pay?

Payment is made by cheque or postal order. You can also pay by credit/debit card online through Paypal.

Is a deposit required?

No, there is no deposit needed.

Do I have to pay postage?

No, postage and packaging is included in the price - even for overseas delivery.

Are the portraits framed?

No, I don't offer a framing service at this time. I generally find people prefer to choose their own frames.

Please note that although I will always try to produce the best possible result from the given source material, I do reserve the right to refuse a commission if the photograph sent is too small, blurred or indistinguishable.
